CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Owen Pappoe is no longer going to commit on May 5.
Thus, Cinco de Pappoe is never going to be a thing. The nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 7 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings will now make his decision on May 1.
There has been much speculation about Pappoe over the last week. His stated leader was UGA at one time.
There seems to be some shifting in the winds with that. SEC Country’s Ben Wolk, among others, now predict that the senior from Grayson High in Loganville will choose Auburn.
Pappoe told DawgNation about the date change in between breaks of water during Nike Opening testing on Sunday.
Pappoe said some of the details are still fluid, but he plans to share his decision live via at least a couple of the local network affiliates. He isn’t certain about the location yet.
He’s all but a shoo-in to become the first three-time selection to the Nike Opening finals after the event concludes — especially after his ridiculous testing in the morning session.
He told DawgNation that he ran a 4.47-second laser time in the 40-yard dash. His shuttle drill came in at 4 seconds flat. He threw the Power Ball 45 feet and also came up with a 40-inch measure on the vertical jump.
When those numbers become official, they likely will be in the range or slightly above the nation’s top Nike football testing rating of this year. That distinction is currently held by 5-star Georgia LB commit Nolan Smith.
