2018 SEC Championship preview
This matchup has been known since the first week of November, as the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide both locked up their respective divisions early. Alabama enters the game as the No. 1 team in the country, having won every game this season by 24 points as the SEC West champs. Every Georgia win meanwhile has been by at least 14 points, though the Bulldogs do have a 36-16 loss on their resume. The Bulldogs won the SEC East for the second season in a row under coach Kirby Smart.
The Bulldogs did bounce back from that loss to LSU though by ripping off five consecutive wins, including victories over Florida and Kentucky. A big reason for the resurgence is running back D’Andre Swift, as the sophomore running back has run for more than 100-yards in four of his last five games. Sophomore quarterback Jake Fromm has also shined since his poor performance against LSU, as he’s thrown 11 touchdowns to just 1 interception in that five-game stretch for Georgia.

Alabama meanwhile rolled up 52 points on in-state rival Auburn on Saturday and beat that same LSU team 29-0 in Baton Rouge.
Georgia beat Auburn 28-7 in the 2017 SEC Championship game, punching the Bulldogs’ ticket to the College Football Playoffs. Alabama, despite not playing in the SEC Championship game last year, also participated in the College Football Playoffs. Georgia and Alabama later met in the national championship game last season, with Alabama winning 26-23 in overtime thanks to a touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa. That game was also played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Tagovailoa is having a monster season for the Crimson Tide, as he’s thrown 36 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions.
With Georgia beating Auburn last year, it ended the SEC West’s streak of seven straight wins over the SEC East in the conference championship game.
