Four weeks from today, the first College Football Playoff rankings will be released. 247Sports didn’t want to wait that long, however, so the site released its own projection for which teams would be in the CFP, if the season ended today.

The top three teams were obvious picks — Clemson, Alabama and Oklahoma. As for which team would be ranked No. 4, it was a little bit closer. And 247Sports decided that Georgia would be the last team in the playoff if the season ended today.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer writes that the Bulldogs would get “a slight nod over TCU thanks to the quality of its wins and the eye test.” Georgia had an impressive road win over Notre Dame, as well as dominating performances against Mississippi State and Tennessee the past two weeks. Hummer said the final spot was the “toughest selection on this list.”

While Clemson, Alabama and Oklahoma each have made the College Football Playoff at least once in the three seasons since it started, Georgia has yet to make its CFP debut.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 Poll, immediately behind Penn State. 247Sports put the Nittany Lions at No. 6 in its CFP projection, behind Georgia and TCU.
