ATHENS — Georgia stars have made the short list for two of the most prestigious awards in college football, the Outland Trophy and the Nagurski Award.

Junior left tackle Andrew Thomas was named one of six semifinalists for the Outland Trophy, which recognizes the top interior lineman on offense or defense.

• OT Penei Sewell, Oregon

• OG John Simpson, Clemson

• OT Tristan Wirfs, Iowa.

The list will be cut to three finalists next Monday. The Outland Trophy winner will be announced during ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12, live from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Reed, a senior safety, is one of five finalists for the Nagurksi Award, which recognizes the best defensive player in college football.

The Nagurski Trophy Banquet takes place on Dec. 9 at the Charlotte Convention Center, where the winner is announced.

Former Bulldog and Pro Football Hall of Famer Champ Bailey is Georgia’s only winner of the award known as the “Defensive Heisman.” Bailey won in 1998.

Former Georgia stars Roquan Smith (2017), Justin Houston (2010) and David Pollack (2002, 2004) were also finalists.
