ATHENS — A new name has been added to Georgia’s football roster. And fans should probably get used to it.
The sophomore defensive lineman formerly known as DaQuan Hawkins has asked to now be called DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle, and the request is now reflected on the official roster.
Muckle is the last name of the player’s step-father, a team spokesman said.
Hawkins-Muckle is in line for a lot of snaps this season, potentially as a starter. He made two starts as a freshman last year, and played in 10 games. A graduate of Westlake High School in Atlanta, Hawkins-Muckle is one of the biggest players on the line, and is listed at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds.
This is the second name change – sort of – for Georgia this season. Senior safety Quincy Mauger has clarified the pronunciation of his last name, asking that it be pronounced Mo-Zhay.
If there are any other name change updates, DawgNation will pass them along right away.
