ATHENS — Georgia won the SEC Championship this past Saturday, beating Texas 22-19 in overtime.
Even as the Bulldogs battled injury all season, the depth of talent Georgia had shined through, allowing them to overcome injuries. The All-SEC Coaches’ Teams reflect that.
Georgia placed 13 players on the three teams, the most of any school in the league. Ole Miss ranked second with nine, followed by Texas and LSU with seven each.
In total, Georgia placed just three players on the First Team. Two of those were specialists in kickoff specialist Peyton Woodring and snapper Beau Gardner. The other was offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, who notably played in only four of Georgia’s eight SEC games.
Georgia got better representation on the second and third teams, as six Bulldogs made the second team and five were third team representatives. Woodring made the first and second teams this year as Georgia’s placekicker and kickoff specialist.
Offensive guard Dylan Fairchild, center Jared Wilson, defensive end Mykel Williams, linebacker Jalon Walker, safety Malaki Starks and Woodring made the second team. Running back Trevor Etienne, outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss, cornerback Daylen Everette, safety Dan Jackson and punter Brett Thorson made the third team.
Georgia, Texas and Tennessee all made the College Football Playoff, with Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina just missing the College Football Playoff field.
Injuries will once again test this Georgia team, as the Bulldogs will be without Thorson for the rest of the season. Quarterback Carson Beck, who led the SEC in touchdown passes and interceptions, is currently dealing with a UCL injury that may force him to miss the Sugar Bowl.
Georgia will next take the field on Jan. 1, when it plays the winner of Notre Dame-Indiana in the Sugar Bowl. The game is set for an 8:45 p.m. ET start on ABC.
