ATHENS — There were plenty of surprise performances during the first week of the 2024 season. But after another dominant performance, it was of little surprise that Georgia held the top spot in the Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings for Week 2.

Georgia beat the Clemson Tigers 34-3 on Saturday. The Tigers entered the game as the No. 14 team in the country but dropped to No. 22 following the loss.

The Bulldogs picked up 51 of 55 first-place votes coming out of the first week in the season. Georgia was followed by Ohio State, Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss in the poll for this week.

Georgia will see a step down in competition this week, as the Bulldogs face Tennessee Tech.

But while Georgia looked impressive on Saturday, head coach Kirby Smart still believes there are plenty of areas for Georgia to improve in.

“I can’t pick one thing on improvement. There was so many things that we’ve got to do better,” Smart said. “All of it. There’s just a lot there that we want to improve on. Some of what you’re doing is dictated by who you play. People just think it’s a stat game. It’s not a stat game. It’s who you’re lined up across from and how good is that football player because that does dictate things, the matchups.”

Georgia held only a 6-0 lead at halftime, with the offense not really finding its grove until the third quarter.

The Bulldogs will hope to build a big lead early, in hopes of getting more reps for many of the young players on the roster. Following the game against Tennessee Tech, the Bulldogs go on the road to face Kentucky and Alabama in their next two games.

Saturday’s game against Tennessee Tech is scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET kickoff.
