ATHENS — It may not have looked that way at the beginning of the season, but Georgia’s game against No. 16 Missouri on Nov. 4 will be one of the more important SEC East contests of the season.
Georgia is the only unbeaten SEC team, while Missouri enters the game with a 7-1 record. The game was given a 3:30 p.m. ET start, with CBS broadcasting the battle.
Georgia was off this week as it prepares for its upcoming game against the rival Florida Gators. While Georgia did spend parts of last week working on Florida, the Bulldogs were also prepping for future foes like the Tigers.
“We kind of take a picture of where we are, what we can do better and how we can practice it better to maybe get better results,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said last week. “That’s what we started on today. We do work on future opponents. Worked on some teams that are further out today, less further out tomorrow and then we’ll start on Florida prep probably tomorrow or Thursday.”
Missouri beat South Carolina 34-12 this past weekend. The Tigers’ lone loss on the season came against LSU. Missouri will get an extra week to prepare for Georgia as it is off this week.
The Tigers put a scare into Georgia last season, with Missouri holding a double-digit lead into the second half. But Georgia recovered in time and came away with a 26-22 road win.
One of the more interesting subplots for this upcoming game is the play of Dominic Lovett. The wide receiver transferred from Missouri to Georgia this offseason and is coming off his most productive game as a Bulldog when he caught 9 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown against Vanderbilt. On the season, Lovett has caught 31 passes for 282 yards.
Lovett’s departure though freed things up for Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden. The sophomore is having a monster season, as he ranks second in the country in receiving yards with 898. Georgia knows Burden well, as the Bulldogs made a strong push during his recruitment in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
Georgia’s game this coming week against Florida is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET start on CBS. The game will be played in Jacksonville, Fla.
