SEC football will kick off a first-of-its-kind season with four games in four days starting on Thursday night.

The additions of Texas and Oklahoma make it a 16-team race for the top two spots in the league and placement in the SEC Championship Game.

The East and West Divisions, created in 1992 when Arkansas and South Carolina joined the league, are no longer in place.

The winner of the SEC Championship Game will most surely secure one of four byes in the newly-expanded 12-team playoff.

Four of the top five ranked conference champions get that CFP first-round pass, while the lowest ranked league champ (likely Group of Five school) will be seeded where it finished in the CFP standings, or at No. 12.

It’s a new-look season to be sure, with more prominent transfers in place across the league, and NIL dealings more visible than ever before.

And yet, the main attraction remains largely the same between the sidelines with the bands playing, school traditions held high.
