It seems Bear Alexander won’t be changing schools for a third time in his collegiate career after all.

The former Georgia defensive lineman shared on X that despite a report from On3 that Alexander planned to enter the transfer portal, Alexander would be staying at USC.

“I’m not crystal clear on all of the noise or what any of this portal mess is about...I’m here to finish what I started and that’s chasing a natty here at USC with my teammates,” Alexander wrote in the post.

Alexander spent the 2022 season at Georgia after signing as a 4-star prospect. He transferred to USC last April. In his first season with the Trojans, Alexander had 48 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. USC went 8-5 this past season, despite having Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams at quarterback.

This is hardly the first time a player has flirted with the transfer portal, only to remain at a school. Georgia cornerbacks Daniel Harris and Julio Humphrey both publicly announced they would be entering the transfer portal, only to remain at Georgia.

“I think kids get confused. I think kids, a lot of times, we try to communicate with our kids really well, be up front with our kids,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said of players entering the transfer portal earlier this spring. “That is the nature of the beast. They turn on their phones and see other people doing it. It becomes a trend. It is like anything else in social media. If he is doing it then why shouldn’t I be doing it? Is the grass greener on the other side?

“Sometimes they don’t know. Sometimes they are getting reached out to by other places. Maybe they should be, but that is just the nature of the beast. Ultimately, he is here. That is the only thing I am concerned with. I don’t think that is a story that is was thinking of going in then going back. It is just the day in age that we live in.”

The transfer portal opens up once again on April 16 and will close on April 30. Georgia cannot add any players from other SEC programs, as the deadline for players to transfer within the conference passed on Feb. 1.

Georgia will hold its annual spring game on Saturday, with the game set for a 1 p.m. start on SEC Network+.
