Georgia offensive lineman Bo Hughley was arrested on charges of reckless driving and failure to maintain lane on Tuesday night. He was ultimately released after paying $26 bond.

New details that led to the arrest have emerge, according to a report from Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ.

Per the report, the incident took place near Carlton Street by the River Road Loop on Georgia’s campus on Tuesday night at 6:28 p.m.

Hughley told the officer that he was the driver of the vehicle and had been going the speed limit of 25 miles per hour. The report states the Hughley said he lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve.

Hughley stated he had previously had issues with his car, which is a 2017 Chrysler 300. At the time of the incident, Hughley did not have his license with him but did give his name and date of birth to the officer.

The car was parked in the roadway and showed damage to the front. The officer stated in the report that the passenger side front tire was completely missing from the car and that the front bumper was dislodged as pinestraw was stuck in the front of the car.

Hughley’s teammate, freshman cornerback Ellis Robinson was in the car and was interviewed by the officer. Per the report, Robinson stated Hughley was going the speed limit.

The officer noted that the evidence suggests Hughley had been going faster, with the tread marks from the car going nearly 200 feet. A second officer showed up to the scene. After some discussion, the two officers determined it was highly likey Hughley had been going faster than the posted speed limit.

Camera footage of the area showed that Hughley had just accelerated past another car before the incident took place.

Due to the area where the incident took place being an often filled pedestrian area — to go along with the camera footage and physical evidence of the car and surrounding area — the officers believed there was probable cause to arrest Hughley. He was ultimately charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

Hughley is a redshirt freshman from Fairburn, Ga. He missed spring practice after having shoulder surgery and is expected to compete to be a backup for Georgia this fall.

Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon was arrested on reckless driving and racing charges on Wednesday, with the police report alleging that he was racing teammate DeMello Jones. Jones was issued a citation but was not arrested.

The arrest of Mondon happened on the same day that Georgia running back Trevor Etienne had his driving-related charges resolved.

Hughley and Mondon represent the third and fourth driving-related arrest of the offseason for Georgia. Wide receiver Sacovie White was arrested in May on a reckless driving charge as well.

Georgia has not yet released any official statements on either of Mondon’s or Hughley’s arrest. Head coach Kirby Smart is set to speak with reporters in Dallas on Tuesday at SEC Media Days.
