Most UGA fans would say Herschel Walker is the greatest running back in college football history, but legendary Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer says there’s one tailback that was more talented than Walker.

“(Herschel) was a great running back, but let me tell you this, Marcus (Dupree) was better than him,” Switzer told DawgNation this week after he spoke with the Touchdown Club of Atlanta. “He was the best that never was.”

Switzer coached Dupree at Oklahoma from 1982-1983. He rushed for 1,144 yards on 146 carries and scored 13 touchdowns. He led the NCAA with 7.8 yards per carry.

Dupree ultimately transferred to Southern Mississippi in his sophomore year, but he never registered a carry for the Golden Eagles.

On the other hand, Walker was dominant at UGA for three seasons. He rushed for 5,259 yards and scored 52 total touchdowns. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1982.
