Former UGA star Hines Ward has often expressed interest in some day returning to his alma mater as a football coach.
Whenever that topic comes up with Georgia fans, they often get very excited with the idea of the former Super Bowl MVP walking the sidelines for the Bulldogs, especially for recruiting purposes.
Ward even played at Georgia at the same time as this fellow named Kirby Smart, who has some serious connections with the coaching hires for the Bulldogs.
Despite all of that, it appears that Ward’s chatter … is pretty much just fun chatter and wishful thinking.
Nevertheless, Ward appears to be serious about giving coaching a try. On Wednesday, the NFL’s New York Jets announced that Ward will be a coaching intern during training camp.
Will Ward’s desire to coach eventually lead him back to UGA one day? Who knows? But it’s probably doubtful. The 43-year-old Ward played 14 seasons with the NFL’s Steelers, and is reportedly worth more than $16 million. He is also involved with numerous businesses and activities outside of football.
It’s still a nice thought, though.
