G-Day has been named one of the “college football’s most intriguing spring games to watch in 2019” by The Sporting News.
The spring scrimmage for the Bulldogs will be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday. April 20. And it will be televised by the SEC Network.
Here’s what Bill Bender of The Sporting News said about G-Day:
“We know Jake Fromm has a stable of running backs, but who is he throwing too? Five of the top six leading receivers from last year are gone, and Jeremiah Holloman is the top target on the roster. Senior Tyler Simmons will take on a more pronounced role, and Charlie Woerner is the top returning tight end. This is an opportunity for the Bulldogs’ young receivers to show out.”
First of all, with all due respect to The Sporting News, it amazes me how so much of the national media seemingly forgets that former 5-star Demetris Robertson is on the UGA roster. There aren’t as many mouths for Fromm to feed as last season, so surely D-Rob will be getting the rock a lot more. On top of that, UGA added two more 5-star receivers in its 2019 recruiting class, George Pickens and Dominick Blaylock. You’ve got to figure at least one of them, if not both, will emerge at some point during their freshmen seasons. Personally, even though he had some big drops in the Sugar Bowl, I think Holloman is the most talented receiver that UGA has had on its roster since … well, a very long time.
