ATHENS – After Georgia students and fans lit up Sanford Stadium with their smart phones in the fourth quarter, running back D’Andre Swift lit up Sanford Stadium with his legs.
For the second straight week, the sophomore from Philadephia wowed the crowd with an exhilarating touchdown. A week after going 83 yards to score against Kentucky, Swift took it 77 yards against for a back-breaking score early in the fourth quarter against No. 24 Auburn.
That run and 16 others gave Swift 186 yards for the game, totaling 342 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in Georgia’s last two contests. He had not gone over 100 yards in a game until the eighth game of the season when he had 104 yards against Florida.
Swift made his mark with a 64-yard touchdown run to cap Georgia’s win over Auburn in the SEC Championship Game last year. But that was as the Bulldogs’ No. 3 back behind Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.
Swift had found the going tough as Georgia’s primary back this season. Groin, ankle and foot injuries slowed him down the first half of the season. But he said he started feeling better after the bye week before the Florida game on Oct. 27. Since then he’s had three straight games over 100 yards and scored in every game.
Georgia is now 12-0 when Swift scores a touchdown in a game.
