Georgia football may have gone home with a 19-point win against Florida, but at least one Gators defender thinks the best team didn’t win on Saturday.
Florida defensive lineman Cece Jefferson said after the Gators’ 36-17 loss that he and his teammates thought they were the “better team.”
“Everybody was disappointed,” Jefferson said, according to the official quotes from Florida’s post-game press conference. “We felt like we were the better team, but we just didn’t come out and execute the way we should have. We just reminded each other that it’s one game and we have to keep moving forward.”
The Gators definitely kept things close for a long time against Georgia. They took a 14-13 lead at the beginning of the third quarter and generally challenged the Bulldogs as much as any team this season besides LSU. If not for their three turnovers, the game probably would have been even closer.
However, Georgia outscored Florida 23-3 after that point. The Bulldogs finished with a 429-275 advantage in total yards.
So if Florida wants to prove it is actually the better team, it’s going to have to wait until next next season.
