Georgia only gets one player on AP First Team All-SEC

The Associated Press released the First and Second team All-SEC selections on Monday, and senior cornerback Deandre Baker was the only Georgia Bulldog named to the first team. Alabama placed five players on the team, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year. Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Mark Stoops was named the SEC Coach of the Year.

Baker had a standout season for the Bulldogs, as he consistently locked up the opposing team’s best wide receiver. The senior cornerback is also a finalist for the Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive back. Baker is also widely expected to be taken in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft, as many have pegged him as a first-round pick.

The Bulldogs did place six players on the Second team, led by running D’Andre Swift. Here are the other five players to make the Second Team: offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, center Lamont Gaillard, linebacker D’Andre Walker, kicker Rodrigo Blankenship and wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who made the team as a punt returner.

Among the most questionable snubs was that quarterback Jake Fromm was not included. The second-team selection went to Missouri quarterback Drew Lock, who had a lower completion percentage and yards per attempt average than Fromm. Lock also threw 8 interceptions compared to Fromm’s 5, despite Fromm playing in one more game. Through 12 games, Lock had thrown for 25 touchdown passes compared to Fromm’s 24. The Georgia quarterback did also throw for 301 yards and 3 touchdowns against Alabama on Saturday, outplaying Tagovailoa in the process.

Below you can see the full First and Second-Team All-SEC selections. Tagovailoa, Allen and Ole Miss wide receiver AJ Brown were all unanimous selections.
