ATHENS — Georgia football held the No. 3 spot in the FWAA-NFF Super 16 poll on the heels of its 45-0 shutout win over Austin Peay.
The top two spots in the poll remained the same, with Alabama at No. 1 and Clemson No. 2.
The Crimson Tide received 45 of the 52 first-place votes, while Clemson received four, Auburn two and Georgia one.
LSU jumped into the Super 16 poll at No. 11 following the Tigers’ convincing 33-17 victory over Miami Sunday night in Arlington, Texas.
Georgia plays at LSU on Oct. 13 this season.
Virginia Tech, a 24-3 winner at Florida State on Monday night, debuted in this season’s poll at No. 15.
West Virginia also moved into the elite ranks, No. 14 after dispatching of Tennessee, 40-14.
Three teams dropped out of the poll, two of them that lost football games — Miami and Michigan. TCU dropped out of the Top 16 despite a 55-7 win over FCS Southern.
The Super 16 voting panel is made up of select college football writers along with College Football Hall of Fame members. The poll will be released each Monday.
