ATHENS— The 2024 college football season has come to a close. Georgia did not play in the final game of the year, as Notre Dame ended its season.

The Bulldogs should still be among the most talented teams in the country next season, even after losing over a dozen players to both the transfer portal and the NFL draft. Georgia signed the No. 3 overall recruiting class for the 2025 recruiting cycle and is set to welcome six transfers to the program.

Georgia went 11-3 in the SEC this past season, winning the league. But many of the best players from that team have to be replaced. On the defensive side of the ball, Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks are all off to the NFL.

Below is our first stab at guessing who will replace those past Georgia stars ahead for next season. A start date for spring practice has not been announced, but it typically begins in March.

Georgia opens the 2025 season against Marshall on Aug. 30.

Georgia football depth chart, projected starters

Defensive tackle

  1. Christen Miller (Jr.)
  2. Jordan Hall (R-Soph.), Xzavier McLeod (R-Soph.)
  3. Nasir Johnson(R-Fr.), Jordan Thomas (R-Fr.), Elijah Griffin (Fr.)

Nose tackle

  1. Jordan Hall, Xzavier McLeod
  2. Nnamdi Ogboko (R-Fr.)

Defensive end

  1. Joseph Jonah-Ajonye (R-Fr.)
  2. Justin Greene (R-Fr.)
  3. Jayden-Jamal Hanne (R-Fr.)

Analysis: Georgia’s defensive line is going to look very different next season. Gone are veterans Warren Brinson and Naz Stackhouse, along with Williams and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. From a raw numbers standpoint, this group isn’t as deep as it has been in year’s past. But there is still a lot to like about this group. Getting Miller back was significant as he looks to become a bigger piece in this defense.

McLeod and Hall both did some nice things to end the season.

Georgia will be counting on its 2024 signees to make a big impact this fall. Jonah-Ajonye will be worth watching as he recovers from a foot injury. Georgia also needs Griffin to play early. He was the No. 1 ranked defensive lineman in the country.

Outside linebacker:

  1. Gabe Harris (Jr.)
  2. Quintavius Johnson (Soph.)
  3. Isaiah Gibson (Fr.), Chase Linton (Fr.), Darren Ikinnagbon (Fr.)

Analysis: The loss of Damon Wilson to Missouri really stings for this position group. Harris is almost certainly going to spend more time here, pulling him away from the defensive line.

The Bulldogs will have to prep their freshmen to get ready to play. All three were ranked as top-100 prospects by at least one recruiting service.

Expect Georgia to be aggressive in the transfer portal to try and add help at this position.

Inside linebacker:

Mac:

  1. CJ Allen (Jr.)
  2. Justin Williams (Soph.)
  3. Kris Jones (R-Fr.)
  4. AJ Kruah (Fr.)

Money:

  1. Raylen Wilson (Jr.)
  2. Chris Cole (Soph.)
  3. Zayden Walker (Fr.)

Analysis: Allen and Wilson have a ton of experience for players who are entering their third season at Georgia. Expect for them to be leaders on the defensive side of the ball. It’s a big offseason for Williams and Cole as they look to increase their role in the defense. Cole could be a Swiss-army knife and play at outside linebacker as well for the Bulldogs.

Cornerback:

Right cornerback:

  1. Daylen Everette (Sr.)
  2. Ondre Evans (R-Fr.)
  3. Dominick Kelly (Fr.)

Left cornerback:

  1. Daniel Harris (Jr.)
  2. Ellis Robinson (R-Fr.), DeMello Jones (R-Fr.)
  3. Jontae Gilbert (Fr.)

Analysis: Everette will command one of the starting spots, as he returns for what will be his third season as a starter for the Bulldogs.

But the left cornerback position is wide open. Harris started the final four games of the 2024 season, but didn’t exactly lock down the starting spot entering next season. Robinson and Jones are more than capable of grabbing the starting spot opposite Everette.

Free Safety:

  1. KJ Bolden (Soph.)
  2. Chris Peal (R-Soph.)
  3. Jaylan Morgan (Fr.)

Strong Safety:

  1. JaCorey Thomas (Sr.)
  2. Jaden Harris (R-Soph.)
  3. 3. Todd Robinson (Fr.), Reseasn Dinkins (Fr.)

Star:

  1. Joenel Aguero (Jr.
  2. Zion Branch (Jr.), Adrian Maddox (Sr.)
  3. Kyron Jones (R-Soph.)

Analysis: Don’t get too hung up on who plays where in this position group. Georgia is going to cross-train across the unit, making sure everyone can play in all three spots. Bolden is the most assured of playing time after a stellar freshman season for the Bulldogs.

Aguero will play as well, but the question is whether that comes at the star position, where he largely played in 2024, or at the other safety spot.

The Bulldogs do have to replace veterans Dan Jackson and Malaki Starks, which won’t be easy. Georgia did grab three safeties out of the transfer portal this offseason. We’ll see how quickly they push for playing time.

Punter:

  1. Brett Thorson (Sr.)
  2. Drew Miller (R-Fr.)

Kicker:

  1. Peyton Woodring (Jr.)

Snapper:

  1. Beau Gardner (Sr.)
  2. Will Snellings (R-Soph.)

Analysis: Thorson is back but his injury situation will be worth watching following season-ending knee surgery. Woodring is one of the best kickers in the country, while long-snapper Gardner returns as well.
