Dill’s Food City, which has a couple of locations near the Athens area, won over UGA fans with a funny troll of Notre Dame this week.
The grocery stores in the nearby Georgia towns of Lavonia and Royston removed all Irish Spring soap from the shelves until after the UGA-Notre Dame game. Notre Dame’s nickname, of course, is the Fighting Irish.
On Dill’s Facebook page, it said “Sorry Dill’s customers, there will be no Irish Spring at our stories this week. Go Dawgs!” There was also a picture of the empty shelf with a sign that said “Temporarily Out Of Stock … Go Dawgs!”
The Saturday showdown between No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 3 UGA is one of the biggest home games in Athens in years – and also one of the most expensive tickets.
