ATHENS — While his coach and a teammate sounded hopeful that Nick Chubb would be able to play Saturday, he’s not practicing Monday.
Or at least the star tailback was not with the running backs during the media viewing period of practice. He also wasn’t seen anywhere on the field, whether it be with trainers or running on the side. Two other injured players, including receiver Kenneth Towns, were on exercise bikes.
That’s not necessarily a bad sign for Chubb’s availability. He could just be sitting out Monday for precautionary reasons. Or he could have returned later after the media left.
Some other notes from Monday’s media viewing period:
- Brice Ramsey, the No. 3 quarterback and No. 2 punter, was practicing with a wrap on his hand. Ramsey did not make the trip to Ole Miss.
- During a drill, it appeared that sophomore cornerback Deandre Baker was working with the first team, while sophomore Juwuan Briscoe was with the twos. But it also appeared that the defensive backs were shuffling in and out during the drill.
- There were no apparent changes to the first team on the offensive line.
- The requisite caveat to all this: Monday’s media viewing is only one period, which lasted seven minutes.
