ATHENS — Georgia football is ready to get back to its self-imposed standard after what defensive lineman Michael Barnett said was an “off day” against Missouri last Saturday.
The Bulldogs sacked Tigers QB Drew Lock twice, knocked him down another time and hurried him on eight occasions in not allowing him to throw a TD pass in a 43-29 win.
But Barnett said Georgia was taking a back to basics approach this week in preparation for its game with rival Tennessee.
“We just need to focus on fundamentals and technique, getting back to work, doing what we know what to do, which is strike the blockers and play our defense and play Georgia football,” Barnett said. “We did play well times [at Missouri], but we didn’t play well enough, It was like an off day for us.”
Barnett said the coaches have had the right game plans in place, but the players have to step up and meet the challenge.
“That’s on the players,” Barnett said. “The coaches can tell us, but we’re the ones doing it, and it’s a mindset …. we have to get better and work on fundamentals and technique.”
