JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Georgia took a big step toward winning a third straight SEC East Division title with its third consecutive win over Florida.
The No. 8-ranked Bulldogs (7-1, 4-1 SEC) topped No. 6-ranked Florida (7-2, 4-2) 24-17 at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday.
Quarterback Jake Fromm was 20-of-30 passing for 279 yards and 2 touchdowns, while receiver Lawrence Cager had 7 catches for 132 yards with a TD and 2-point conversion catch.
The Bulldogs converted 12 of 18 third-down attempts in front of the crowd of 84,789 in Jacksonville, controlling the clock for 35:48 to Florida’s 24:12.
Cager’s 52-yard touchdown catch gave the Bulldogs a 14-point lead with 10:01 left, and after a Florida TD tight end Eli Wolf converted Georgia’s 12th third down with a 22-yard reception that sealed the win in the final minutes.
The Georgia defense held Florida to negative rushing yards until the Gators’ final drive of the contest, Florida finishing with 21 yards rushing on 19 attempts.
