ATHENS — Georgia has its punter of the future. If not sooner than that.

Marshall Long’s letter-of-intent arrived at Georgia on Wednesday morning. The punter from North Carolina committed to the Bulldogs last week, shortly after backing off his commitment to Virginia Tech.

Shane Beamer, who had been a Hokies’ assistant, was hired as Georgia’s special teams coordinator last month.

Long’s LOI was the fourth to arrive at Georgia on Wednesday morning.

Rated a three-star prospect, Long is the eighth-best punter and the No. 63 prospect in North Carolina. He’s a senior at South Rowan High School in China Grove, N.C.

Right now, Brice Ramsey figures to enter the season as the favorite to punt, after finishing last season in that role. But the rising junior could also still be a factor in the quarterback race, so the door could be open for Long to contribute in 2016.
