ATHENS — Jacob Eason’s audition to be Georgia’s starting quarterback is continuing, two days away from what’s setting up to be a telling scrimmage.

Eason was getting first-team reps for at least the second straight practice on Thursday. The only difference from Wednesday was that Brice Ramsey was with the second team, while Greyson Lambert was with the third team. The day before Lambert was second team.

From all appearances, Eason is getting a long look this week to see if he’s ready for the first-team role, with Saturday’s second scrimmage of vital importance in the competition. Lambert and Ramsey, who are more known quantities, appear to be sharing second- and third team reps.

Of course, it was only a smidgen of practice the media was allowed to see – but it might have been all of practice, because shortly after the media left it began storming. But at least the Bulldogs could go complete practice at their indoor facility – oh wait.

Other notes from the media viewing period on Thursday:

  • Tyler Catalina continues to work with the first team at left tackle.
  • Nose tackle John Atkins was in uniform but not participating. Atkins hyperextended his knee two weeks ago.
  • Safety Quincy Mauger was participating, but Aaron Davis was still at safety in Mauger’s place. Mauger sprained his ankle last weekend.
  • Roquan Smith was still working with the first team at inside linebacker, alongside Natrez Patrick. That doesn’t mean Reggie Carter has been demoted, it may just be an effort to prepare Smith for significant snaps this season.
