Quarterback Jake Fromm will make his first career start against Notre Dame on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC).

Fromm is a freshman but has a strong recruiting pedigree. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a win in their season-opening game against Appalachian State.

Here’s what you need to know about Fromm.

1. Jake Fromm was an Alabama commit

Before flipping to the Bulldogs, Fromm was a member of Alabama’s recruiting class. But after Kirby Smart became the coach at Georgia, Fromm flipped his pledge and opted to play for the in-state Bulldogs. Fromm is from Warner Robins, Ga., and played for Houston County High School.

2. Jake Fromm was a key figure in Georgia’s 2017 recruiting class

Fromm was a factor in helping the Bulldogs land a number of recruits. He also appeared in two different DawgNation commitment videos, along with 5-star freshman Richard Lecounte. Fromm was the No. 3 quarterback in the 2017 class and the No. 44 player in the country, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

3. Jake Fromm took over for Jacob Eason after Eason got hurt

Fromm entered the game early after Eason sustained a left knee injury. The freshman quarterback completed 10 of his 15 pass attempts for 143 yards and a touchdown.  Smart always had a plan for Fromm to get in the game. Eason has been ruled out as he deals with a knee sprain.

“If you guys knew how well this guy prepares, as a student of the game, even in the summertime in 7-on-7,” senior linebacker Davin Bellamy said after the game. “The guy is the real deal.”

4. Jake Fromm had a strong spring game

Fromm was 14 of 23 passing for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns in the spring game for the Bulldogs, and he looked better than Eason. It’s worth mentioning that Fromm did most of his work against the second team.

“He understands the offense very well. He knows the system, he understands what coverages he’s seeing. I’m excited about Jake Fromm,” Smart said after the spring game.

5. Jake Fromm put up huge numbers in high school

In his high school career, Fromm put up monster numbers, throwing for 12,745 yards and 116 touchdowns in 46 career games, falling just 280 yards shy of Deshaun Watson’s Georgia state record. Fromm is listed at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds.
