There have been a number of guarantees in sports history. There was Joe Namath’s guarantee that the Jets would Super Bowl III. There was Tim Tebow’s promise in 2008. But there’s probably never been such a sports guarantee from two high-profile athletes in Santa suits. And that’s what Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm and safety Richard LeCounte did.

Back when Fromm and LeCounte were recruits, they helped film a commitment video with Jeremiah Holloman and Malik Herring in December of 2016 with DawgNation. In the video, the Fromm and Lecounte, dressed up as Santa— Santa Jake and Santa Rich as they’re referred to in the video. At one point in the video, it cuts to Fromm and LeCounte playing video games while still in their Santa suits.

Fromm then asks LeCounte, “When do you think we should let Malik and Jeremiah know what we did?”

LeCounte had the perfect response.

“Probably sophomore year, in Jacksonville,” LeCounte said. “After we beat Florida. Again.”

This guarantee, that Georgia would beat Florida in back-to-back years, came to be true. After beating Florida 42-7 in 2017, the Bulldogs beat Florida, again, winning 36-17. This is only the second time that Georgia has a two-game or more winning streak in the series since 1990. The only other time was when Georgia won three straight in this series from 2011 through 2013.

And it’s not like Fromm and LeCounte were bystanders for both of these wins. Fromm started both games for the Bulldogs and led Georgia to a national title appearance as a freshman. With the win, Fromm is now 19-3 as Georgia’s starting quarterback. He finished the game with 240 yards on 17-of-24 passing. Fromm also threw for 3 touchdowns and was money on third down all game long.

LeCounte played sparingly as a freshman in 2017 but has become a major contributor for the Bulldogs in 2018. He’s started every game for Georgia this season. He scooped up a fumble recovery against the Gators and finished with seven tackles.

Herring and Holloman also played big roles in the win. Herring forced a fumble on a critical third down just before halftime, while Holloman finished the game with 2 touchdowns and also drew a pass interference penalty. The sophomore wide receiver finished the game with 4 receptions for 48 yards.

Holloman also came asking for answers after the game.

With the win, Georgia improves to 7-1 on the season and 5-1 in SEC play. Should the Bulldogs beat Kentucky next week, it would clinch the SEC East title for the second year in a row. A game time for the Kentucky game has not yet been announced.
