After the signature win of Will Muschamp’s rocky coaching career , the South Carolina coach delivered a signature speech.
It was all captured on video in the Gamecocks’ locker room by the team’s video crew.
As part of the fiery speech, Muschamp said: “Everybody who is from this state or went to school here (at UGA) is going to get a game ball – and I’m paying for it.”
There’s lots of connections between South Carolina and Georgia.
South Carolina heavily recruits the state of Georgia, especially the Atlanta area. The Gamecocks have 20 players on this year’s roster from Georgia.
What did Muschamp mean when he said “who went to school here?” He was referring to his coaching staff.
South Carolina offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon played football at UGA, and was a longtime Bulldogs assistant under Mark Richt. Gamecocks running backs coach Thomas Brown starred at running back at Georgia.
Of course, Muschamp himself played football at UGA from 1991 to 1994.
Back to Saturday: South Carolina’s stunning 20-17 upset over No. 3-ranked UGA resuscitated an otherwise dismal season for the Gamecocks. Entering Saturday’s contest, South Carolina was unranked with a 2-3 record.
Probably most surprising, they were able to beat the Bulldogs with their third-string quarterback.
