Zamir “Zeus” White is ready to get loose as the Las Vegas Raiders projected season-opening starting tailback.

White, who overcame two knee surgeries en route to helping lead Georgia to the 2021 CFP Championship, has been a work in progress since being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by Las Vegas.

“I can’t wait for it,” White said recently, asked about donning shoulder pads for the Raiders fall workouts. “These pads are still cool and fun with the tagging, but yeah, let’s get the pads on and get clicking some.”

Bulldogs’ fans will be among those cheering the loudest for White, a former 5-star prospect who overcame two knee surgeries while playing at Georgia.

The powerful 6-foot-1, 215-pound tailback backed up former Raiders’ star Josh Jacobs his first two seasons in the NFL.

A modest rookie campaign saw White play in 14 games, contributing mostly on special teams while carrying the ball 17 times for 70 yards.

White grew into a bigger role in the backfield last season, finishing with 104 carries for 451 yards in the 17 games he played — 84 of those carries and 397 of those yards coming in the final four games after Jacobs sustained a season-ending quad injury.

White broke out with a 22-carry, 145-yard performance in a stunning 20-14 road win over eventual Super Bowl champ Kansas City.

The following week, White showed how much he has grown as a receiving threat, catching five passes for 35 yards while also carrying 20 times for 71 yards in a 23-20 loss to Indianapolis.

White finished with a 25-carry, 112-yard rushing performance in Las Vegas’ season-ending 27-14 win over Denver, earning more confidence from the coaching staff.

When Jacobs signed with Green Bay as a free agent this past offseason, White found himself back in the familiar position of being a lead back.

White explained that his approach has remained the same each season.

“Last year my mindset was the same, just came in daily and competed,” White said. “Just ball out in practice — just compete in every single thing you do.”

It worked for White at Georgia ,and it appears to have put him on the verge of a breakout season in the NFL.
