ATHENS — Finally, it seems, Carson Beck has some bulletin board material and perhaps a reason to have a chip on his shoulder.

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel and Miami QB Cam Ward have better odds of winning the Heisman Trophy than Beck, according to a SportsBetting.ag press release.

Beck, of course, is the nation’s leading returning passer from his quarterback position on the preseason No. 1 ranked team and is most widely projected to be the No. 1 overall NFL draft pick.

From February through July, Beck and Texas QB Quinn Ewers were the Heisman Trophy co-favorites.

But over the 4th of July weekend, the money started to come in on Oregon’s incoming transfer QB, Gabriel, per an ESPN story.

“I think there were some maybe influential people that hopped on it and said they liked it on some public spaces,” Chase Michaelson, oddsmaker for the SuperBook, told ESPN. “It’s people we respect that like Gabriel, and I think there are lots of reasons to like him.”

Gabriel spent his first three seasons at UCF before transferring to Oklahoma, where he was named the Big 12′s Newcomer of the Year in 2022.

Now, after 2023, Gabriel hopes to win Big Ten Newcomer of the Year leading the Ducks.

Ward, the quarterback at Miami, has the storybook script to go with the talent.

Ward’s first collegiate season was at Incarnate Word, where he won the Jerry Rice Award as the most outstanding freshman in the FCS ranks.

From there, Ward transferred to Washington State for two seasons, putting up gaudy numbers before this most recent transfer to Miami.

Among the top eight favorites to win the Heisman, Beck is only one of the three who have not transferred, spending three of his seasons at UGA as a backup.
