Tre’ Nixon had seen everything he needed to see back in November. He had toured all his top schools. He had been to UGA, Auburn, Florida and Penn State, among others. That was what he did over the summer.
A lot has changed in the football world since then. The four-star receiver from Florida has seen the changes at UGA over the last 45 days and decided he will now need to take an official visit. The UGA program has revamped and all the coaches he had established relationships with are gone.
Nixon will be in Athens this weekend, along with notables such as Florida 4-star DE/OLB Brian Burns, Alabama 5-star OLB Lyndell “Mack’ Wilson and Alabama 4-star DB Jeawon Taylor. Taylor is a Florida commitment at this time. Georgia WR Tyler Simmons, a 3-star commitment to Alabama, was also scheduled to visit.
What’s the big reason why?
“Meet the new staff and see how I bond and connect with them,” Nixon told DawgNation.com. “To see their vision of the future and how they would utilize me.”
He said he’s hearing from UGA offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and new receivers coach James Coley “every day” and called them “great guys.” Nixon has been very thorough during his recruiting to the point that he recorded all the games the schools he had in mind played. He wanted to break down exactly how the ran their offense and used their receivers.
Nixon used to have schools like UGA, Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M and Penn State among his finalists. Not anymore.
“No finalists now,” he told DawgNation.com. “I’m weighing all my options.”
He said UGA was the only current official visit he has planned at this time. He’s still weighing the possibility of others.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder from Viera High School is rated as the nation’s No. 40 receiver and No. 205 player overall for the Class of 2016. He’s been laser-timed at 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
