When the Signing Day dust began to settle around noon Wednesday, the thinking was that Georgia opted to close out its 2018 class with a defensive lean.

The nation’s No. 2 cornerback, then the Nos. 2 and 5 outside linebackers, all chose Georgia. The Bulldogs didn’t get the big receiver the roster needed for 2018, but it would be OK. The program already has a pair of 5-star wideouts committed to the 2019 class.

But then Kirby Smart got out the shoehorn. Georgia found a way to squeeze 6-foot-4 receiver Tommy Bush into the 2018 class, too. The Texas native has been laser timed with 4.4 speed in the 40.

The nation’s No. 37 receiver prospect also chose the Bulldogs on National Signing Day during a live ceremony on ESPNU. He had liked UGA since his official visit back in December and was able to join the nation’s No. 1 class for 2018.

Georgia never let up in its pursuit of Bush. The staff kept making him a priority, and Smart and receivers coach James Coley flew to Texas Friday to check in with him.

The decision gives the Bulldogs 26 signees in 2018. Jordan Davis and Tramel Walthour, a pair of 3-star defensive tackle commits, also signed with Georgia on National Signing Day.
