BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Georgia is getting a massive upgrade to its already great offensive line class this year.

Isaiah Wilson, a 5-star OT from Poly Prep in Brooklyn, chose Georgia in the middle of a holiday assembly in front of his school on Friday.

The school gathering was a nice touch. Wilson was on hand in the school gym as the Poly Prep headmaster delivered presents to the school. There was one special present that came from the hands of a 5th-grade “elf” at Poly Prep.  She delivered it to Wilson.

The hat that signified his decision was inside that box.

DawgNation really wanted that hat to be in red and black.

It was. There was even a Yankee Bulldog on hand.

The 6-foot-7, 354-pounder is rated as the nation’s No. 7 OT for the Class of 2017. He’s also seen as the No. 32 overall player in his signing class.

How good is he? The 5-star prospect was agile enough to line up as a “Wildcat” quarterback for Poly Prep this year. He scored three touchdowns in one game.

Wilson’s decision came down to Alabama, Georgia and Michigan. The final pecking order did not go that way.

The Bulldogs got the final official visit for Wilson. Reports came back to DawgNation off that visit that Wilson intended to choose Georgia.

That built on Wilson’s childhood interest in the Bulldogs. He grew up watching Georgia games on TV on Saturdays from his home in Brooklyn.

The interesting part regarding his decision is that Wilson will not be a December graduate. His commitment on Friday is non-binding and schools can still recruit him.

Will this be an issue? Poly Prep coach Kevin Fountaine dismissed the notion that the remainder of Wilson’s recruiting will be contested. There was a reason why Wilson moved up his decision two times from an initial announcement date at the Under Armour All-American game on Jan. 1.

Fountaine said that Wilson made his decision last night and that the coaches at the schools he was considering knew about his choice prior to that assembly.

Georgia had already gathered in its greatest offensive line class in the modern recruiting era prior to Wilson’s decision. The Bulldogs had never signed a class with so many players ranked among the Top 10 and Top 20 at their respective positions dating back to when the rankings industry became so prevalent in 2000.

Wilson’s choice undeniably makes Kirby Smart and line coach Sam Pittman’s haul the greatest offensive line class in the modern recruiting era for UGA.
