Brenton Cox has been down to Georgia and Ohio State for awhile now.

The “who” has always been those 2 programs. But that “when” has been sped up considerably.

Cox told DawgNation on Sunday night he no longer wants to wait months to figure out which school he’ll attend.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect, ranked as the nation’s No. 3 strongside defensive end in the Class of 2018, per the 247Sports composite rankings, will be at G-Day this Saturday. His decision then takes place the following day.

That’s a swift departure from some recent thoughts that he planned to wait months or possibly until after the season.

The rising senior at Stockbridge High grew up with Georgia as his dream school. He’s also been to UGA more than any other program.

Yet this decision comes immediately after an Ohio State visit. He went up for the spring game in Columbus and his mother came along. Cox told 247Sports.com’s Bill Kurelic that she really enjoyed the trip.

Cox told DawgNation after the Nike Opening Atlanta regional that he had a lot of family members who felt that he didn’t need to go out of state to play major college football. He said his family was made up mostly of Georgia fans.

But Cox balanced those thoughts by bringing up the ease of air travel.

He’s definitely arrived at a conclusion that presses the fast forward button.

“Just ready,” Cox said.

Fans that were looking for some news on the recruiting front now see one of Georgia’s alpha targets for 2018 on commitment watch. Cox will be at G-Day this weekend, so the staff in Athens will have one more chance to state its case.

Cox has said Georgia’s staff has told him he could even wear No. 1.

He clearly can affect opposing quarterbacks. His Maxpreps.com stat totals for his junior season reflect 75 tackles and 18 sacks in just 13 games.

The big junior will enroll early in January 2018 and already has earned his invitation to Nike’s elite “The Opening” showcase at the company’s headquarters in Oregon this summer.

G-Day is scheduled for Saturday. Georgia’s spring game kicks off at 2 p.m. ET and will be televised on SEC Network.
