ATLANTA — Georgia’s kickers have made much more noise than the typical kicking unit this offseason.
Rodrigo Blankenship’s dad publicly bemoaned the fact that his son wasn’t getting a scholarship, which required a response from the freshman place kicker. Then the Bulldogs added walk-on freshman Brooks Buce from Greater Atlanta Christian. Now, on National Signing Day, Georgia has finally awarded a scholarship to a kicker, Wofford graduate transfer David Marvin.
While the scholarship seemingly indicates that Marvin has the inside track on the starting job, Buce isn’t just going to give in and he isn’t upset by the Bulldogs’ newest addition.
“It all just comes back to competing,” Buce said. “We’re going to have to work for it. It’ll just be fun.”
Buce also said that Georgia had mentioned to him previously in the recruiting process that there might be room for an additional kicker.
“They’ve mentioned that there were other spots open for it but they didn’t finalize anything so I just had to keep an open mindset about it,” Buce said.
