Justin Fields wore a bow-tie bright and early on Wednesday morning.
That nation’s No. 1 overall prospect for 2018 (per the 247SportsComposite) became the first player in the country to receive his Under Armour All-American jersey at a 7:45 a.m. ceremony at Harrison High.
Fields will play in the 10th Under Armour All-American game on Jan. 4. The event, which will be televised by ESPN2, is an annual competition featuring the nation’s top seniors.
He was the first of more than 100 players who were selected to be a part of that game this year.
“My football dream is to become the best quarterback I can be, along with having the best training,” Fields said in a release from the event. I’d also like to be the first pick in the NFL Draft and to be a Heisman Trophy winner.”
Fields also chose to recognize his father, Ivant Fields, as a key individual who helped shape life up to this point. Ivant Fields, a retired Atlanta police officer, is now the on-campus school resource offer at Harrison.
Ivant Fields was presented with the American Family Insurance Dream Champion Award for fulfilling that role in his son’s life. It has given him a unique vantage point to watch his son’s career take off on both the baseball diamond and the football field.
Fields could also be seen as a 2018 Major League First-Year-Player Draft prospect, but his main focus has been on the football field.
