James Cook, one of the top running backs in the country, committed to Georgia.
Cook is one of the top prospects in the country and would be a welcome addition to any team.
Here is everything you need to know about the 2018 running back prospect, James Cook.
1. James Cook is the younger brother of former Florida State star, Dalvin Cook
Yes, Cook is in fact the younger brother of current Minnesota Viking and former Florida State superstar Dalvin Cook. Dalvin is Florida State’s all-time leading rusher, as he amassed 4,464 rushing yards in his three-year career. He was taken in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
2. James Cook was a one-time Florida State commit
Many expected Cook to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play for the Seminoles. And he did commit to them. But on July 4, Cook backed off his pledge to the Seminoles. The Georgia Bulldogs quickly emerged as a leader after Cook backed off his commitment.
3. James Cook is the No. 3 ranked running back in the country
Cook is ranked as the No. 3 running back in the country per the 247Sports composite ranking. He’s the No. 35 prospect in the country and the No. 5 player in the state of Florida. If he commits to the Bulldogs, Cook would be the highest rated prospect from the state of Florida to commit to Kirby Smart(*Isaac Nauta is orginally from Buford, Ga before transferring to play his final high school season at IMG Academy).
4. Georgia coaches have talked about pairing James Cook with Zamir White
The Bulldogs have had a history of signing two top running backs at the same time. There was Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall both signing as members of the 2012 class. Then Georgia landed both Sony Michel and Nick Chubb in the 2014 class. And now the Bulldogs are in position to do it again in 2018, by landing Cook and Zamir White.
White is the No. 1 ranked running back in the country and committed back in July. And per DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell, Georgia coaches have mentioned that the two would make for a “Thunder and Lighting” tandem.
5. James Cook attends Miami Central High School, which has produced a number of great running backs
Miami Central has put out a number of great running backs over time. In addition to both Cooks, Miami Central also counts NFL running backs Willis McGahee, Najeh Davenport, Travaris Cadet and Devonta Freeman. Cook is set to announce his decison at around 8 pm on Thursday night.
