Jared Wilson committed to Georgia during the Sam Pittman era. He was seen as a Pittman special. Another gem of sorts plucked out of the 3-star realm into a future fixture on the Georgia line.
Check out those feet on his highlight film. That’s why his high school head coach said it looked as if he runs on pillows. But Sam Pittman’s exit brought with it several uncertainties.
- The first thing was the nation’s No. 15 OG (per the 247Sports Composite ratings) was “shocked”
- Wilson also didn’t know anything about Matt Luke basically about 40 days ago – “I want to see where this relationship goes,” he said.
- He had this to say nine days ago: “Coach Luke and I still haven’t talked very much but I just want to see where this relationship goes.”
- That’s about the time when others schools started offering. That included Florida and Florida and also Sam Pittman and his Razorbacks. He was keeping his options open and said it was “hard” for him to say if he still considered himself committed to UGA.
Fast forward to real time. Wilson told DawgNation he was just fresh off an “unbelievable” visit to resize that UGA fit at the “Junior Day” event this weekend.
“I wanted to go back because it was their ‘Junior Day’ and it was a chance to go down and see coach Luke for the first time,” Wilson said. “I can tell that he is a family guy.”
He got to work on building that relationship up with coach Luke. They didn’t sit down and talk football yet, but they did something else.
They played ping pong.
“He is really good,” Wilson said.
Luke took the “W” on those clashes.
“I thought I was really good,” Wilson said. “But I guess not.”
Jared Wilson: The fit with Georgia moving forward
He will check out North Carolina this coming weekend. South Carolina will be the move after that on Feb. 1. His last scheduled trip will be to check out Florida on March 7.
They will have to deal with UGA again as a team to flip him from. Why? That’s because Wilson said that this past weekend’s “Junior Day” visit to Athens was important. He even rated it as his best trip to check out UGA so far.
He stressed the “family guy” aspect when it comes to Luke. Even while thinking about what the fit was like with Coach Pittman at Georgia.
“It is almost like you can’t compare them,” Wilson said. “They both are great coaches. They both have great energy and most of all they are both family guys, and that’s what I like.”
Wilson rates as the nation’s No. 363 overall prospect for 2021 on the 247Sports Composite standard for 2021. He is one of two commitments at this time for that cycle in Athens. Woodstock High DB David Daniel is the other.
Daniel committed to Georgia on Sept. 13. Wilson chose the Bulldogs in November 7, 2019. Check out Wilson’s junior film below.
