Jordan Burch now has just five schools on his mind. The 5-star DE from The Hammond School (Columbia, SC) tweeted out his top five on Monday evening. It will no doubt draw a lot of eyes.
It should not be seen as a big surprise that Georgia did slide in there for the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect for 2020 on the 247Sports Composite ratings.
There was even a time when Burch was the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect for this cycle. But 5-star Clemson DT commitment Bryan Bresee regained that long-held distinction.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Burch is simply the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect and No. 1 strong-side DE these days.
Burch placed UGA among that elite group with Alabama, Clemson, LSU and South Carolina on Monday night. The 5-star senior was just on an official visit to LSU for the Auburn game over the weekend.
Georgia had received consistent visit attention from Burch in 2019. He made it to Athens on five separate occasions and still has a likely official visit left to give the Bulldogs, too.
Those trips included: 1) Junior Day visit; 2) G-Day visit; 3) Scavenger Hunt appearance; 4) July cookout visit and 5) Another unofficial visit for the South Carolina game earlier this month.
Jordan Burch: How the industry views his decision right now
Clemson currently holds 62 percent of the eight 247Sports “Crystal Ball” predictions for Burch. It is believed that Burch could likely make his commitment decision known at the Under Armour All-American Game or he could wait until the traditional signing period in February.
Burch flashes his ability all over the field for The Hammond School on Friday nights. The Hudl highlight reel below provides a good window into his all-around athletic ability.
He can play a variety of positions in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association, but his future home is as an edge defender.
Burch is one of the more intriguing prospects in this class. He lives in the same city that the South Carolina Gamecocks call their home. The quarterback of his high school team is even the son of Carolina head coach Will Muschamp, too.
Those crystal balls point that he will choose Clemson. But yet he’s taken far more trips to UGA this year than he’s been to check out the Tigers.
He also opts not to do any media regarding his recruiting process either. That’s been a staple throughout his recruiting journey.
This top 5 release here only adds to the intrigue of what he might be thinking.
If Burch does wind up signing with the Tigers, it will complete an epic haul. Burch could potentially be the seventh 5-star in their 2020 class. That’s impressive, but he would also be the fourth 5-star DL signee and the fifth prospect rated among the nation’s top 100 recruits for their defensive line, too.
