Roswell junior cornerback LeAnthony Williams, Jr. will be one of the Southeast’s top recruits next year. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has the size and skills to play cornerback and safety on Saturdays.
“He’s the total package at corner,” Roswell head coach John Ford said. “He’s long. He’s fast. He’s strong and physical. Not afraid of contact. Competitive. Comes from a wonderful great family that’s really supportive. He’s really anything any coach could dream of in a great cornerback.”
The 4-star recruit updated his recruiting options this week with the AJC and said Clemson, Florida State and Tennessee have given him the most attention since Sept. 1.
“All of those schools have hopped on big since September 1,” Williams Jr., said. “Georgia is coming back into the mix. It has been very interesting seeing all these schools coming at me. It is going to be very hard when it is time to pick (my) Top 5.”
When will he set his Top 5? He shared the special day he has in mind for that announcement in the video interview above. Clemson will be a team to watch in his recruiting. Roswell senior linebacker Tre Lamar is a good friend and he committed to Clemson this summer. That was a big get for defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Venables is already a familiar face around the Roswell program.
Williams also mentioned how impressed he was with his junior classmate Xavier McKinney. The recruiting attention on Roswell’s junior safety has increased exponentially over the summer.
He discussed the visits he has in mind for this fall and how he’s started to get to know UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Williams plans to be in Knoxville this weekend for Oklahoma vs. Tennessee.
Williams is currently rated as the No. 16 cornerback prospect in the nation for the Class of 2017 per the 247sports composite.
