The biggest news of the Kirby Smart era at UGA did not take long.  Smart’s hire at UGA — combined with a great official visit at UGA earlier this year — was enough for one 5-star recruit to name a new leader.

Ben Davis, the 5-star rated as the nation’s No. 1 ILB, has named UGA as his leader. That’s pretty much a jaw-dropper in recruiting circles considering that Davis hails from Alabama. The Alabama prep standout is a Crimson Tide legacy as the son of the all-time leading tackler in program history.  He’s also an in-state priority for the Tide.

The multi-talented athlete is rated as the nation’s No. 17 overall prospect for the Class of 2016. UGA’s status as his new leader was first reported by John Garcia of Scout.com.

Davis details his interest in UGA in the Scout.com recruiting video below.
