Travon Walker is ranked as the country’s No. 2 defensive tackle for the 2019 class, and he’s set to make his commitment at 6:45 p.m. ET Tuesday in Thomaston, Ga.

Walker is a key target for Georgia. His commitment would represent a major recruiting victory for Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart.

1. Travon Walker is considering multiple SEC schools

Walker will choose between Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and South Carolina. The Bulldogs are a significant favorite to land Walker, who’s 6-foot-5, 272 pounds. 247Sports gives Georgia a 100-percent chance to secure his commitment Tuesday. Recently, Walker told Rivals’ Chad Simmons that he “took football out of it” when making his choice.

2. Travon Walker named Georgia’s coaching staff as a reason why he would choose the Bulldogs

Recently, Walker spoke to DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell, who asked the talented prospect why the player would choose to continue his football career in Athens. As part of his answer, Walker said, “The answer there is the coaching staff. Kirby Smart just signed a 7-year deal. That is a firm foundation. You know that head coach is now committed and not moving around. I know that man will be my coach for all the years I am there if I choose to go there. I like the security there to know that he’s going to be at Georgia now.”

3. Travon Walker received heavy contact from Georgia and Clemson of late

Walker told Sentell that both Georgia and Clemson made strong pushes for him of late. Walker described the interest as “non-stop” and that the programs are “hitting me up constantly.” Sentell reported that Walker can name key relationships at Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina. Walker has described the competition to secure his commitment as “very tight.”

4. Travon Walker gained interest from Auburn as a basketball player

Believe it or not, Auburn has shown interest in Walker for football and basketball. As reported by Sentell, Walker said Auburn got a “late start” on the player during the recruiting process. Tigers coaches targeted him when his Upson-Lee High School basketball team was on campus for a camp. Since that trip, Walker said that Auburn has contacted him consistently for football and basketball. Here’s how Walker described his relationship with Auburn in the recruiting process, as reported by Sentell:  “I will put it like this because it feels like when you get a girlfriend and then a lot of other girls want to come at you. Say your girl is a ’10’ and you have a lot of other girls talking to you that still look good. Your girl is still a ’10’ and those other girls look good but you know you still have a girl that has been with you for a long time. You want to stay loyal to loyalty and not just that ‘right now’ good-looking girl.”

5. Travon Walker joining Georgia would continue the Bulldogs’ recruiting momentum

Georgia has enjoyed big momentum on the recruiting trail lately. Walker’s commitment to the Bulldogs would be another sizable victory for Smart and his program. Not long ago, Georgia gained a commitment from former 5-star wide receiver Demetris Robertson, who announced his intention to transfer from California. Walker’s commitment would represent an addition in an area of need for Georgia and produce another big headline for the Bulldogs.
