Last week, the media voted Georgia offensive lineman Greg Pyke as a first-team preseason All-SEC selection at SEC Media Days.

On Monday, those accolades took a back seat to the big guy’s health.

According to a report from Fletcher Page of OnlineAthens.com, which cites a source close to the program, Pyke underwent surgery for appendicitis on Monday.

Though a long-time contributor to the Bulldogs offensive line, the fifth-year senior put in hard work in his first spring under new head coach Kirby Smart and offensive line coach Sam Pittman, earning the Coffee County Hustle Award for exhibiting the most desire during spring drills.

According to the report, Pyke should be fully recovered in time to participate in Georgia’s season opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3 in the Georgia Dome.

Pyke has played in 27 games for the Bulldogs since arriving on campus in 2012, including 23 starts. He started 10 games and appeared in 12 during the 2015 season.
