ATHENS — This time Georgia didn’t call it 93k day, and it definitely wasn’t. Still, a lot of people were in attendance for UGA’s 2017 G-Day game.

Georgia’s official crowd figure for its spring game Saturday was 66,133. That’s well short of last year’s full house, but still the second-most all time.

The attendance figure is an estimate by the school.

The lower section of Sanford Stadium was mostly full, with some empty areas. The middle section, at least the part visible from the press box, was about one-third full, but a school official said the area above the press box had more fans. The upper-most deck was basically empty.

Coach Kirby Smart opened his postgame remarks by thanking the fans for the turnout.

“I’m really excited about our fan base. To have 66,000 people makes me really proud to be a Bulldog,” Smart said. “I’m glad they came out. A lot of our recruits made comments about the attendance and I think any chance you get to have 66,000 people for a practice, that’s an exciting thing.”
