The Georgia basketball season came to an end on Wednesday with a loss to Missouri in the SEC tournament. But Tom Crean and the Georgia staff got some great news on Friday as the Bulldogs landed a commitment from 4-star forward Christian Brown.
Brown is rated as the No. 61 prospect in the country and played for the famed Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. He’s listed as a 6-foot-6 small forward. The addition of Brown now gives Georgia the best recruiting class in the SEC for the 2019 cycle, and the No. 5 class overall.
Brown spoke with Evan Daniels of 247Sports about why he committed to the Bulldogs.
“I know the plan is to go to the next level and to get better I think I needed to go to Georgia,” Brown said.
With Brown, Georgia now has four players in the 2019 class. Two of them, Jaykwon Walton and Toumani Camara signed with Georgia in the early signing window. Georgia also landed a commitment from 5-star guard Anthony Edwards, who is the nation’s No. 2 player in the country for the 2019 class.
Edwards is the highest rated player ever to commit to Georgia basketball. All four players in the class are top-100 recruits. Edwards and Brown can officially sign with Georgia staring on April 17.

Georgia went 11-21 in Crean’s first season at Georgia and 2-16 in the SEC. The Bulldogs do lose four scholarship seniors from this team but they also bring back a number of promising players. Nicolas Claxton, Jordan Harris and Rayshaun Hammonds are all eligible to return next season. Hammonds is coming off of foot surgery and Claxton was noncommittal about returning to UGA following the loss to Missouri in the SEC tournament.
The Bulldogs will likely be expected to finish much higher than 13th in the SEC next year. In addition to the usual SEC slate, the Bulldogs will also be playing in the Maui Invitational, which will also feature the likes of Kansas, Michigan State and UCLA.
