ATHENS — Georgia enters the bye week with an injury list that keeps growing, adding not only leading receiver Terry Godwin on Saturday night, but several other players during the game and earlier in the week.
The defensive line is the most injury-ravaged right now. Starting defensive lineman Trenton Thompson missed a second straight game with a knee injury, which was expected, but he was joined on the sideline by two other linemen.
Sophomore David Marshall and junior DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle were both also out, with injuries that were not specified. Both players were walking on their own power afterwards without any noticeable braces, limps or casts.
“They’ve both got injuries. Undisclosed injuries,” head coach Kirby Smart said after the game. “But I hate it for them because they’re both good players, and could have helped us tonight.”
Thompson did look improved after the game, able to skip and jog off the field.
Senior inside linebacker Reggie Carter also missed a second straight game with what Smart has labeled an undisclosed injury. He also did not have any noticeable limp, brace or cast.
Junior Natrez Patrick, normally a starting inside linebacker, also missed a second straight game, but he is dealing with a four-game suspension for a marijuana arrest.
“We’ve got five guys out that played a significant amount prior to this game,” Smart said.
Besides Godwin, two other offensive players are dealing with injuries.
Pat Allen, a reserve offensive lineman who started the season opener, went down with a lower leg injury late in the game. He had ice on his foot/ankle area as the game ended.
Jayson Stanley, a reserve receiver and key contributor on special teams, missed the game with what appeared to be a lower body injury. Stanley had crutches on the sideline but was walking on his own power.
