ATHENS — Trenton Thompson is back at Georgia football practice. Deangelo Gibbs is not.

Thompson, the junior defensive lineman, was not seen during the media viewing portion of Monday’s practice. There was no reason given for it, and for all anyone knows he was back later that day or at Tuesday’s practice, which did not have an open period. Either way, Thompson was definitely there on Wednesday and practicing without limitations.

Gibbs, however, remains absent. The freshman defensive back is away from the team right now because of a medical issue, according to a report from Dawgs247.com.

Fullback Christian Payne, who missed the SEC championship with a concussion, was back at practice on Wednesday.

Inside linebacker Natrez Patrick continues to practice. His status for the Rose Bowl remains in question, without any official clarification at this point.

Freshman defensive back Latavious Brini, cleared earlier in the day of a felony forgery charge from last week, was not seen during the media viewing period. There was no immediate word on why he was out. Brini, now in the clear legally, is redshirting this season.

This is the sixth bowl practice in as many days for Georgia in Athens, dating back to last Friday. The team was using the indoor facility on Wednesday, after it rained most of the day in Athens.

Head coach Kirby Smart is due to address the media after practice.
