ATHENS — The status of receiver Shakenneth Williams is up in the air right now due to injuries, head coach Kirby Smart said after Tuesday’s practice.
Williams is at practice but is not participating, acting as a student coach. Smart did not specify the player’s injuries.
“He may or may not come back, we’re not sure yet,” Smart said. “Right now he’s helping us student coach.”
Williams signed with Georgia out of Macon’s Rutland High School in 2014, when he was rated a four-star prospect by most recruiting services. But he was never able to able to quite crack the rotation at receiver.
After catching three passes for 61 yards as a freshman, he had just one catch for 10 yards as a sophomore, then no catches last year. He did start one game last year, when he experimented with a move to cornerback midway through the season. He soon returned to receiver.
