Anthony Edwards triggered a game-ending 10-1 run for Georgia as the Bulldogs rallied to beat UNC-Charlotte 77-69 in an exhibition basketball game on Friday night.

Edwards’ recorded a steal and assist to Christian Brown to pull UGA to 68-67 and then scored for Georgia on the next two trips down the floor as the Bulldogs took the lead for good at Halton Arena.

“This is invaluable,” Coach Tom Crean said in a school release. “It’s absolutely invaluable to play on the road with a good amount of Georgia people here, but Charlotte came out and had great support.

“To get a road win…and I know it doesn’t count in the standings, but it does count for us learning what we’re capable of. I’m excited about that.”

Edwards, the top-ranked guard in the 2019 signing class, was named a preseason All-American by Sporting News on Thursday.

Senior Tyree Crump led the team with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while Edwards chipped in with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Brown, a 6-foot-6 freshman from Oak Hill (Va.) Academy also hit double-figure scoring with 14 points in 15 minutes, connecting on 5-of-7 shooting.

Freshman Sahvir Wheeler led UGA with 4 assists.

Georgia led by as many as 13 points in the first half before the 49ers rallied to take a 37-33 lead at halftime.

The teams traded the lead seven times in the second half before an Edwards basket gave the Bulldogs the lead for good.

Georgia, which features 10 new players including nine freshmen, opens the season at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 at Stegeman Coliseum against Western Carolina.
