Following a short week caused by Hurricane Matthew, Georgia returns to Athens where it will attempt to win fifth game of the season, second at home, against the weakest team in the SEC.
The Bulldogs will search for their second consecutive win, following a two-game losing streak to finish out September, against Vanderbilt, a team still in search of its first conference win this season.
The Commodores are 2-4 with wins against Middle Tennessee State and Western Kentucky, In the SEC, Vanderbilt suffered losses to South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky on the way to an 0-3 conference record.
Georgia’s fraternal order of tailbacks will look for another big game this weekend after both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel rushed for over 100 yards against South Carolina. Chubb had 121 yards and 2 touchdowns and Michel contributed 133 yards. Freshman Brian Herrien also got in on the action with 82 yards.
The Bulldogs will be heavily dependent on the run game once again this weekend, especially if QB Jacob Eason struggles for the second consecutive week. Last week he threw for only 27 yards. Struggles from the freshman are expected this season, but he’ll need a much better game Saturday in order to stave off the upset.
Vanderbilt’s offense is one of the worst in the nation, but it isn’t without its workhorses. Tailback Ralph Webb is second in the SEC in rushing with 682 yards. Georgia should be able to sell out for the run, though, considering Vanderbilt’s passing offense is one of the worst in the nation.
If Georgia forces Vanderbilt into passing downs, the front seven — whose main task is limiting Webb — should be able to string together another big week following a 5-sack performance against South Carolina.
